Community Guidelines
Overview
These Community Guidelines ("Guidelines") set out the standards of conduct required of every user of Zunii. They are intended to keep Zunii safe and respectful for everyone. By using Zunii, you agree to comply with these Guidelines. Violations may result in enforcement action, up to and including permanent Account suspension.
1. Core Principles
Every rule in these Guidelines stems from four core principles. When in doubt, refer to these principles.
Respect Everyone
Treat every person with dignity and respect, regardless of their background, identity, beliefs, or opinions. There is a real human being on the other side of every conversation. Engage with empathy and kindness.
Prioritize Safety
Protect yourself and others. Never share personal information prematurely. Report anyone who makes you feel unsafe. Your safety (and the safety of others) comes first, always.
Be Authentic
Be yourself. Use your real name, accurate age, and a genuine photo of yourself. Authentic connections require honesty. Misrepresenting your identity undermines trust for everyone.
Speak Up
If you see something wrong, report it. Every report is confidential. Your reports directly help us protect the community and take action against those who violate these Guidelines.
2. Age Requirement
Adults Only: You Must Be 18 or Older
Zunii is exclusively for adults aged 18 and older, in every country where it is available.
We apply a date-of-birth age check at registration (enforced on your device and on our servers) and actively monitor for underage Users. Any Account belonging to or used by a person under 18 will be suspended and its data deleted. If a User claims to be under 18, we will treat this as confirmation and take immediate action.
If you encounter someone who you believe is underage, please report them immediately through the in-app reporting feature or by contacting safety@zunii.app.
3. Zero Tolerance Violations
Immediate & Permanent Account Suspension
The following violations result in immediate and permanent Account suspension without prior warning. No appeal is available for these violations. We may also report to law enforcement and relevant authorities, preserve evidence for legal proceedings, and cooperate with investigations.
3.1 Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) & Child Exploitation
- Any content that depicts, describes, promotes, distributes, or facilitates child sexual abuse or exploitation in any form;
- Any attempt to solicit, groom, recruit, or establish inappropriate contact with a person under 18;
- Any behaviour intended to sexualise, endanger, or exploit a minor; and
- Any content that normalises or trivialises sexual contact between adults and minors.
Zunii has a zero-tolerance policy for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE). Users who violate this policy are permanently banned. We report all identified child exploitation material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) as required under 18 U.S.C. § 2258A, and to applicable law enforcement authorities worldwide. We preserve relevant data as required by law for the purposes of investigation and prosecution.
To report a child safety concern, contact us at safety@zunii.app, or use the in-app Report feature (select the "Child safety" category) on any chat or profile.
3.2 Credible Threats of Violence
- Direct, specific, and credible threats of physical violence, bodily harm, or death against any individual or group;

- Content that promotes or glorifies eating disorders; and
- Challenges, games, or pacts that encourage self-harm or suicide.
Note: If you or someone you know is in crisis, please contact emergency services in your area or a crisis helpline immediately.
3.4 Terrorism & Violent Extremism

- Content that promotes or incites violence in support of any extremist ideology; and
- Distribution of terrorist propaganda or manifestos.

5. Community Violations
Warning or Temporary Restriction
These violations typically result in a warning or temporary restriction for first offences. Repeated community violations may escalate to temporary suspension or permanent ban.
5.1 Spam & Deceptive Behaviour
- Sending spam, chain messages, bulk messages, or unsolicited promotions;
- Phishing attempts, social engineering, or distribution of malicious links;

- Offensive, hateful, or misleading profile information;
- Commercial, promotional, or advertising content in profiles; and
- Contact information (phone numbers, social media handles, URLs) in profiles for solicitation purposes.
5.4 Misuse of Service Features
- Abusing the reporting system by filing false, frivolous, or malicious reports;
- Attempting to circumvent screenshot detection or other safety features;
- Sharing Content from private chats outside of the Service without the other User's consent; and
- Using the Service for any purpose other than personal, non-commercial connection.
6. Profile Standards
Your profile is the first impression other Users have of you. To maintain the integrity and safety of our community, all profiles must meet the following standards:
6.1 Photo Requirements
- Must be a genuine photograph of you;
- Must clearly show your face (no heavy filters, masks, or obstructions);
- Must not contain nudity, sexually explicit content, or violent imagery;
- Must not include other people's faces without their consent;
- Must not be a stock photo, celebrity photo, cartoon, or AI-generated image; and
- Must not contain text overlays, contact information, or promotional content.
6.2 Name & Information
- Use your real first name (displayed as initials);
- Your age must be accurate and reflect that you are 18 or older;
- Your gender and country must be accurate; and
- Do not include contact information, URLs, or promotional content.
7. Privacy & Safety Tips
Protecting Your Privacy
- Start with initials: Zunii displays only your initials by default. Your full name remains hidden until you choose to share it.
- Share intentionally: Only share your name and profile photo when you feel comfortable and have established a level of trust.
- Guard personal details: Do not share your home address, workplace, school, phone number, financial information, or social media accounts with people you have just met.
- Screenshot protection: In chats, Zunii blocks screenshots and screen recording where the platform allows (capture is prevented on Android and hidden from capture on iOS). Where a capture can't be fully blocked, both participants may be notified. No protection can stop someone photographing the screen with another device.
Staying Safe
- Trust your instincts: If something feels wrong, it likely is. Disconnect, block, and report.
- Block freely: You can block any User at any time, for any reason, without consequence. Use this feature whenever you feel uncomfortable.
- Report immediately: Report any violations you witness. All reports are confidential. The other User will never know you reported them.
- Never send money: Never send money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or financial information to anyone you meet on Zunii, regardless of the story or reason they provide.
- Be skeptical of requests: Be cautious of Users who quickly escalate emotional intensity, make urgent requests, or ask you to move the conversation to another platform.
- If you meet in person: If you ever decide to meet someone from Zunii in person, meet in a public place, tell someone you trust where you are going, arrange your own transportation, and keep your phone charged.
8. How to Report
Reports are confidential. You can report a User from an active chat, from their profile, or from any post in the public Community Feed. To report from a chat:
-
Open the Chat Menu
Tap the menu icon (⋮) in the top-right corner of any active chat. To report a post in the Community Feed instead, simply long-press the post and choose Report. -
Select "Report"
Choose the "Report" option from the menu. -
Choose a Category
Select the type of violation: Critical Safety, Harmful Behaviour, or Community Violation. -
Select the Specific Reason
Choose the specific reason that best describes the violation from the list provided. -
Add Details (Optional but Helpful)
Provide any additional context or details that will help us review the report accurately. -
Submit Your Report
Tap Submit. Your report is confidential. The reported User will not be informed of your identity.
Reports Are Confidential
When you submit a report:
- The reported User is NOT notified of who reported them;
- The reported User is automatically blocked from matching with you;
- Any active chat between you and the reported User is immediately ended; and
- The report is recorded and our enforcement system responds automatically based on the severity and the number of distinct reporters, as described below.
Alternative Reporting: If you are unable to report through the App, you may report directly by emailing safety@zunii.app with a description of the issue and any relevant details (e.g., the User's initials, approximate time of interaction).
9. What Happens After a Report
When a report is filed, our server-authoritative enforcement system records it and decides on a response based on two things: the category of the violation and the number of distinct Users who report the same Account within a rolling time window. The most serious categories are prioritised for review, and child-safety reports are treated with the greatest severity.
| Report Category | Examples | Priority | What Happens |
|---|---|---|---|
| Critical Safety | Child safety, credible violent threats, self-harm promotion, terrorism | Highest | Reporter is protected immediately (block + chat ended); evidence is preserved; restrictions escalate quickly, and a report that a User is under 18 suspends the reported Account pending review |
| Serious Violations | Harassment, sexual content, hate speech, illegal activity | High | Restrictions are applied as the enforcement ladder escalates with additional distinct reporters |
| Community Violations | Spam, impersonation, inappropriate profiles, feature misuse | Standard | Reported User is blocked from matching with you; the ladder escalates with additional distinct reporters |
Outcomes: The enforcement action (a warning, a temporary cooldown, or a suspension) is determined by the category and the number of distinct reporters, with the context of the User's recent history. See Section 10 (Enforcement Framework) for details.
10. Enforcement Framework
We enforce these Guidelines consistently and proportionally. Enforcement actions are determined based on the nature, severity, and context of the violation, as well as the User's prior history.
10.1 How Enforcement Escalates
Enforcement is decided by a server-authoritative system, per violation category, based on the number of distinct Users who report the same Account within a rolling window (windows range from 7 to 30 days depending on category). As distinct reports accumulate, the response escalates:
| Action | When Applied |
|---|---|
| Warning | A first report in most categories: a notice only, with no restriction on your Account |
| Temporary Cooldown | Additional distinct reporters within the window: matching is paused for a set period that grows with severity |
| Suspension | Two or more distinct reporters in the most severe categories, or continued reports that reach the top of the ladder: matching and connections are disabled until reviewed or appealed |
| Permanent Ban | Any zero-tolerance violation (Section 3) |
10.2 False-Report Safeguards
A Single Report Cannot Suspend You
To protect against false or retaliatory reports, a report from a single User never results in a suspension on its own. Suspension for a given category requires reports from two or more distinct Users within the time window. Child-safety reports are the most serious and are acted on the fastest. When a category's reporting window passes without further reports, that history clears.
10.3 Context & Discretion
We consider the full context of each situation when reviewing reports and enforcement, including:
- The severity and nature of the violation;
- Whether the behaviour was intentional or repeated;
- The User's overall history and prior violations;
- The impact on the affected User(s) and the broader community; and
- Any mitigating or aggravating circumstances.
We reserve the right to take more or less severe action than the framework above suggests, based on the specific circumstances.
10.4 Law Enforcement Cooperation
For violations involving illegal activity, threats to safety, or child exploitation, we may cooperate with law enforcement and relevant authorities, including by providing relevant Account data and evidence as required or permitted by law.
11. Appeals Process
If you believe your Account was suspended or restricted in error, you may submit an appeal.
11.1 How to Appeal
Email appeals@zunii.app with the following information:
- The email address associated with your Account;
- A clear explanation of why you believe the action was taken in error; and
- Any relevant context or evidence supporting your appeal.
11.2 Appeal Review
- We re-examine the original report, the evidence, and the context before deciding;
- We aim to respond to appeals within 30 days of receipt;
- The outcome of the appeal review is final; and
- Your Account status does not change while the appeal is under review, unless safety requires otherwise.
11.3 Appeals Not Available
No Appeal for Zero-Tolerance Violations
Appeals are NOT available for zero-tolerance violations involving child safety (CSAM, grooming), credible threats of violence, promotion of terrorism, or promotion of self-harm/suicide. These decisions are final and permanent.
12. The Community Feed
The Community Feed is a public, app-wide space where any Zunii member can share a post and react to others. Everything in these Guidelines, including every Zero-Tolerance Violation (Section 3), Serious Violation (Section 4), and Community Violation (Section 5), applies fully to community posts, captions, images, and reactions. Because the feed is public, we expect an even higher standard of care here than in a private chat.
Posts Here Are Public to Everyone
Anything you post to the Community Feed (text, images, captions, and your reactions) is visible to every Zunii User, not just people you have matched or connected with. Other Users can view, screenshot, save, or report it. Never post anything you would not want to be public, and never post private information about yourself or anyone else (phone numbers, addresses, financial details, or someone else's photo or personal details without their consent).
12.1 What You Can Post
- A single image with an optional caption, or a text post.
- Posts are shown with your initials and profile photo only. Your full name is never attached to a community post.
- Other formats are intentionally not supported: no GIFs, polls, links-as-posts, voice notes, replies, or threads.
12.2 Community Feed Rules
- Keep it appropriate for a public, all-ages-18+ audience. Sexual, hateful, violent, illegal, or self-harm content is removed and actioned exactly as in the rest of these Guidelines.
- No spam or flooding. Do not post repetitive, duplicate, or bulk content, advertising, scams, or unsolicited promotion. The Service enforces posting rate limits, duplicate detection, link limits, and spam protections automatically.
- No harassment or targeting. Do not use the feed to harass, threaten, demean, or pile on to any person or group.
- No impersonation or misinformation. Do not pretend to be someone else or post deceptive content.
- No private information. Do not post anyone's personal or contact information, including your own, that you would not want public.
12.3 Posts Cannot Be Edited or Deleted by You
Once you publish a community post, it cannot be edited or deleted by you. Posts remain in the feed until they age out under our retention limits or are removed by us. Make sure you are comfortable with a post being public before you share it. We keep only the most recent posts and images; older content is removed automatically as new content arrives.
12.4 When You Cannot Post
If your Account is suspended or in a cooldown period, you cannot post or react in the Community Feed. You can still read the feed. This is part of the same enforcement framework described in Section 10.
12.5 Reporting Community Posts
Any User can report any community post by long-pressing it and choosing Report. Reports from the feed go through the same confidential review and enforcement system as chat and profile reports (Sections 8 to 10). You can also block a User from the feed, which hides their content from you. If a User deletes their Account, their community posts are removed from our servers and any copy that remains is shown as authored by "Deleted User" with no name or photo.
13. Changes to These Guidelines
We may update these Community Guidelines periodically to reflect changes in our practices, community feedback, or legal requirements. When we make significant changes:
- We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page;
- For material changes, we will provide in-app notification at least 14 days before the changes take effect; and
- Continued use of Zunii after the updated date of any modifications constitutes your acceptance of the revised Guidelines.
We encourage you to review these Guidelines periodically.
